How often have people told you to 'trust God'?

People who believe in God like to say this a lot, to themselves and to others, especially when things are not going well. But how do you trust God? Especially when you are afraid and don't feel like it? What even is TRUST? Today in our second talk on Big Words I want to look at the word 'trust' and my understanding of how we trust in God. In my view we have 3 options - Trust only yourself, Trust in Fate or Trust God. Which one will you choose?

Worship

When Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well he tells her "a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth..."

Not only are Jesus' words an invitation to the Samaritan woman, but they are also a challenge to the reader. Worship is not self-centred and truth is not self-defined. It is not about the spectacle, or even how much heart you put into it - it is about the condition of your heart and your relationship with God.

Much of the current Christian music top 40 is focussed on feel-good worship, or worship as self-therapy, so it was refreshing to come across a lesser known band with a focus on scripturally sound lyrics and simple arrangements. These songs put the focus on our Saviour, Jesus Christ - singing of what he has done and why we should trust him; praising him and finding strength and hope only in him. My favourite words right now are these...

What gift of grace is Jesus my Redeemer

There is no more for heaven now to give

He is my joy, my righteousness and freedom

My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace.

Pete.
